PROJECT DETAILS:

Total 650sqm. 2.4 wide x 15m long flexible concrete mats were used with biodegradable Nutrition mat – the mats were anchored using a combination of trenching at the top, concreted at the base plus Galvanised steel UBar anchors at joins and overlaps. The site was top filled with soil and seeded.

At the bottom of a gentle slope and at the main junction village centre, the upgrade of the stormwater drain and slopes needed both an aesthetically pleasing as well as low maintenance and safe erosion protection and stabilisation solution.

Tenterfield Regional Council have chosen a combination of solutions for this upgrade works. Poured concrete interlaid with rocks on the roadside and the Australian Flexible Concrete Mats on the other “green” side. Australian Flexible Concrete Mats create a permeable hard surface that help to protect the contoured drain walls and culvert slopes from erosion. The sloped storm water drains were lined with flexible concrete mats to help filter and slow the runoff from the pathways and road.

By using flexible concrete mats the drain slopes will be able to revegetate, which helps to maintain the pretty aesthetics of the surrounding homes and gardens.

The concrete mats create a hard armoured surface under the vegetated slopes which gives safe access for ongoing mowing and maintenance to the drains. Safe for pedestrians and maintenance workers alike. as well as slowing the flow of water, capturing sediment and allowing good drainage into the slopes, protecting from from erosion and scouring from runoff.

Concrete mats were good solution as they provided,

• Good drainage with permeable qualities
• Hard Armoured protection for vehicle and foot traffic,
• Stabilisation for the vegetated slopes.
• Safe to maintain and mow when vegetation has grown through the mats.
• Easily able to contour around the landscaped gutters and trees and rocks
