WHAT IS THE CONCRETE MAT?

It is a simple concept, the erosion mat consists of concrete shapes embedded into a high strength polyester geogrid. The spacings around each concrete shape give the concrete mat flexibility, enabling it to contour to the landscape and allows for vegetation to grow through the mat.
The vegetation that grows through the mat also helps to anchor the mat to the soil, while offering filtration of fine silt particles from entering the waterways.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

UNSW Water Laboratory tests results have measured how the textured concrete helps to aerate and slow the flow of water. These features make them suitable during heavy rain or high flow events for table drains, swale drains, drainage channels and overflows. They easily contour to the shape and slopes of drains, around pipes, culverts, inlets and outlets.

The space between the concrete shapes enables excellent drainage as well as vegetation can grow through, so the mat grows “green”, but is stable enough to drive over!

STABILISATION

Concrete mats also help to create a stable drivable surface, which makes them cost-effective and safe for vehicles to mow and maintain the drains and embankment slopes. Unlike rip rap or loose rocks, our mats can be driven on without bogging and used on slopes up to 60 degrees!

Concrete mats are supplied in rolls, that are easy to handle and quick to install, they can be easily lifted, placed, and unrolled onsite. They are installed in a matter of minutes with no special tools or using equipment usually already available on municipal projects. Once laid down they start working right away!
