“We have this on our long, very steep driveway. Some sections are anchored down with the supplied pins, other sections we hit bedrock and used rock anchors. It worked out about 1/3 the price of concrete, including machinery and gravel top surface. It has held up very well under this monster wet season, we will definitely be using more on future tracks.”
FACEBOOK QUESTION AND RESPONSE FROM JACKIE:
“How did you prepare the driveway and what base did you use?”
JACKIE’S RESPONSE:
“Just the smoothed out dirt of the site, prepped with an excavator, roller and grader. Part of the site was already a road base track. If we didn’t have significant areas where we had cut away a hillside and filled in a 4m hollow we could have just used the digger. The base doesn’t even need to be that well done, but an uneven base will show up like throwing a blanket over a lumpy bed. For future tracks we will just scrape the grass off, remove lumpy rocks and fill in a few holes. We put gravel on top but scraped a lot off as it was causing vehicle slippage on the steep slope (close to max gradient for a road). The bare mat is bumpy but excellent traction!”
