PROJECT:
Underwater Pipe Protection and stabilisation using Articulated Cable Block Mats
LOCATION:
Whitsunday Islands Great Barrier Reef QLD
PROJECT STATS:
Mat: Articulated Concrete Cable Block Mats
Anchoring: 8mm Stainless Steel cable and cable clamps
OUR REF: ACM 0142
PROJECT DETAILS:
Articulated Concrete Cable Block Mats are flexible and heavy enough to contour over the pipes and were used to weigh down and stabilise the underwater pipes on Great Barrier Reef in Whitsundays Queensland.
The articulated block mats were installed by marine engineer professionals, Mick Lisle from Bakers Creek Marine Farm (BCM Farm)
Each mat is 2.4×1.2m weighing 616 kg each. These were interconnected using stainless steel pipe although marine rope would also be suitable for this project.
Mats were supplied stacked 4 high onto pallets by road transport to Queensland. Once transferred to barge, mattresses were transported to location and lifted into position from the barge. Each mats was lifted and placed over the pipes using cranes and underwater professionals and equipment.
Stainless steel cable rope that interconnects the individual concrete blocks and mats were joined using cable clamps on the rope to create a matrix that weighted and articulated over the pipes. The mats help pipes to maintain their position and protect them from wave action and possible impact of any traffic overhead.
